About the project: |
The endosomal sorting complexes required for transport (ESCRTs) constitute a cellular system for membrane remodeling. I discovered that ESCRT-I depleted cells show reduced expression of genes encoding enzymes of amino acid and fatty acid metabolism. I also found that mRNA levels of ESCRT-I subunits are up-regulated during erythropoiesis. Both membrane turnover and metabolic regulation are essential for erythropoiesis, however ESCRT-I function or the interrelation between membrane and metabolic homeostasis in erythroid maturation have not been described. The aim of my project is to study the role of ESCRT-I in cellular metabolism in the context of erythropoiesis. |
