Full-time position for a Ph.D. candidate in biomolecular modeling or bioinformatics software development

Laboratory of Biomolecular Interactions and Transport

We are seeking a motivated colleague to fill in the open position of a Ph.D. student at the Laboratory of Biomolecular Interactions and Transport (www.labbit.eu) in OPUS project funded by NCN. The position will be available as of October 1st, 2018. The successful candidate will study mechanisms of action of biomedically and biotechnologically interesting proteins by using the state-of-the-art computational methods and/or develop and apply novel bioinformatics tools. The laboratory is located in Poznan, Poland, and is jointly affiliated to the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Biology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan – both ranking among the top research institutes in Poland.

Research topics in two research directions available

• molecular simulation of ligand transport in enzymes and large-scale analysis of the process in relevant enzymes
• development of novel computational methods to study ligand transport

Requirements

• master´s degree in biophysics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, computational chemistry or related field
• good knowledge of Linux OS
• high motivation and enthusiasm
• fluency in English, both spoken and written
• depending on the research direction: you will either have experience with molecular dynamics simulations and basic scripting skills, preferably Python (biomolecular modeling) or experience with bioinformatics software development; knowledge of relevant algorithms in structural bioinformatics; advanced skills in c/c++ and Python (software development)

Our offer

• funding for 36 months – net fellowship 3,000 PLN/month (≈ €750); note that living costs in Poland are very favorable
• training in advanced computational methods
• opportunity to participate in international courses and conferences
• help with applications for additional funding during your studies
