Laboratory of Structural Biology
TETs at the interface of epigenetics and DNA repair
The Laboratory of Structural Biology at the International Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB), Warsaw, headed by Matthias Bochtler, invites applications from motivated and talented young researchers, who have completed a master degree (depending on country, bachelor degree) to work on a TEAM funded project that will address the role of ten-eleven-translocation (TET) proteins in active DNA demethylation and DNA repair. We are looking for candidates for 2 positions.
The project, which will be carried out in collaboration with Prof. Tomasz Jurkowski (Stuttgart University, Germany), aims to elucidate biochemical properties of TET enzymes, downstream DNA repair pathways recruited for active DNA demethylation, and a possible role of TET proteins in the DNA damage response. The project also has a chemical biology component, to pharmacologically control the properties of TET enzymes in cells or zebrafish as an animal model of TET activity.
PhD student 1. will be involved in biochemistry, chemical biology, and structural biology parts of the project. PhD student 2. will be in charge of experiments in cell culture (including imaging tasks), and in zebrafish as an animal model.
Requirements for applicants:
MSc in biochemistry, structural biology, molecular biology or related discipline
Eligibility for PhD studies in Poland
Candidates should have experience in at least one area listed in the “Key responsibilities” section, and a strong willingness to learn new techniques required for the project.
Desirable expertise for PhD student 1: Cloning, protein expression and purification, structural biology, chemical biology
Desirable expertise for PhD student 2: Cell culture techniques, imaging, histochemistry, DNA repair assays.
Monthly remuneration will be 4500 PLN/month, initially for one year, and then for the duration of the project (36 months in total). The ideal start date for the new TEAM member is November 1st, but an earlier or later start date may be negotiated if required.
