MSc Student position
MSc Student position in Laboratory of Protein Metabolism in Development and Aging.
The Laboratory of Protein Metabolism in Development and Aging at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB), Warsaw, headed by Prof. Wojciech Pokrzywa is seeking a Master’s Student to join the project entitled “The regulation of methionine metabolism by the ubiquitin-proteasome system: CHIPed supervision of the methylation potential” (POIR.04.04.00-00-5EAB/18-00). This project is carried out within the FIRST TEAM programme of the Foundation for Polish Science co-financed by the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund.
We seek a highly motivated candidate to join our team, investigating the fundamental role of protein homeostasis mediated by the ubiquitin system. The project aims to determine the functional role of ubiquitin signaling proteins initially characterized in our laboratory using molecular biology techniques and animal model C. elegans.
The laboratory is located in the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (www.iimcb.gov.pl) – one of the top ranked (A+) Polish research institutes, that provides stimulating and interdisciplinary research environment and opportunities of the large biomedical campus. Research topics at IIMCB cover the wide area of structural biology, bioinformatics, computer modeling, molecular and cell biology, neurobiology, cancer biology, and developmental genomics (zebrafish model). The Institute is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, has excellent core facilities and supportive administration. IIMCB benefits from numerous generous funding schemes for basic research through grants from international and national sources (www.iimcb.gov.pl/en/research/grants).
Candidates will be selected in an open competition, according to the procedure complying with the rules of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers as a part of HR Excellence in Research strategy https://www.iimcb.gov.pl/en/institute/hr-excellence.
As a Master’s student you will perform genetic crosses of worms mutated in candidate genes and follow their phenotypes by immunological and microscopic analysis. You will also perform pull-down and in vitro assays with recombinant proteins.
Requirements for the candidate:
-
Holds BSc degree (or equivalent) in biology or biochemistry, or related area (defended before the start of the work on the project)
-
Has a proactive approach to achieving tasks and objectives, good interpersonal skills, a collaborative attitude
-
Has experience in standard molecular biology techniques, including PCR, molecular cloning, quantitative real-time PCR, and Western blotting
-
Has good understanding of genetics
-
Previous experience with C. elegans is a plus
-
Has very good written and oral communication in English
-
Enjoys working in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment
We offer:
