Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Laboratory of Structural Biology




The Laboratory of Structural Biology at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB), Warsaw, headed by Prof. Matthias Bochtler, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the project entitled “CRISPR tools for the study of embryonic development in zebrafish” which is carried out as the DAINA UMO-2017/27/L/NZ2/03234 grant of the Polish National Science Centre (2019-2022). The project focuses on the development of CRISPR nucleases as tools for targeted RNA knockdown in zebrafish (Fricke et al., 2020; 10.1089/crispr.2020.0032). The planned work will be carried out in collaboration with Dr. Gintautas Tamulaitis and Prof. Virginijus Siksnys (IBT VU, Lithuania) and Dr. Cecilia Winata (the Laboratory of Zebrafish Developmental Genomics, IIMCB).



As a Postdoctoral Researcher you will be engaged in the development of CRISPR related endonucleases as tools for targeted RNA knockdown and in the possible application of the technique in small targeted screens.



The laboratory is located in the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (www.iimcb.gov.pl) – one of the top ranked (A+) Polish research institutes that provides stimulating and interdisciplinary research environment and opportunities of the large biomedical campus. Research topics at IIMCB cover the wide area of structural biology, bioinformatics, computer modeling, molecular and cell biology, neurobiology, cancer biology, and developmental genomics (zebrafish model). The Institute is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, has excellent core facilities and supportive administration. Requirements for the candidate:

  1. PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics or a related area at the moment of starting the job (a PhD degree obtained no earlier than in 2014 according to the rules of the funding agency)

  2. Documented laboratory experience in at least two of these areas

  3. Expertise and technical competence in designing and carrying out scientific experiments and in interpreting their results

  4. Proactive approach to achieving objectives, good interpersonal skills, collaborative and adaptive attitude

  5. Prior experience with zebrafish as a model organism or with a vertebrate animal model are highly desirable.

  6. Very good organizational skills

  7. Very good command of English (written and oral communication)

We offer:

  1. Full-time contract (“umowa o pracę”), guaranteed for at least one year 

  2. ~*7600 PLN/month of gross remuneration cost with social security (*Additional bonuses such as the 13th salary after working for the Institute for six months in a given calendar year, or Christmas bonus may supplement this salary)
