Research technician position
Principles of mitochondrial protein compartmentalization in vertebrates
The Laboratory of Mitochondrial Biogenesis headed by Agnieszka Chacińska at the Center of Novel Technologies, University of Warsaw and the Laboratory of Zebrafish Developmental Genomics headed by Cecilia L. Winata at the International Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology, Warsaw, jointly invite application from motivated and talented individuals for the position of ‘Research technician’. Mitochondria play a crucial role in energy conversion, participate in cell stress responses and are involved in various physiologic processes. Due to their multiple cellular functions, mitochondria are more often recognized as the major contributors to human diseases, in particular the neurodegenerative ones like Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease. Full understanding of mitochondria in their cellular and organismal context is urgently needed to develop successful treatments of such devastating diseases that are connected with mitochondrial dysfunction.
The Project: We are group of young and friendly scientists with interests in mitochondrial biology, and developmental biology, trying to explore localized translation on the surface of mitochondria. The position is founded for 24 months by a prestigious POLONEZ grant from the National Science Centre. This involves full-time working contract. The successful candidate will work with the zebrafish model organism and assist in performing genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques. He/she will also be involved in RNA-seq experiments.
The Group: Chacińska’s group is one of the top-level groups in mitochondrial biology. The focus of the group includes import, assembly and degradation of mitochondrial proteins in studying both regular mitochondrial biogenesis, as well as consequences triggered by mitochondrial dysfunctions, while the Winata’s group has established expertise in zebrafish developmental biology and genomics.
The Candidate: We seek an open, motivated and English speaking person. The candidate should have a laboratory experience in basic Biochemistry and Molecular biology techniques and a thorough understanding of the principles.
Start date: November 2017
