PhD student

Laboratorium Homeostazy Żelaza

Iron Homeostasis Laboratory at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (www.iimcb.gov.pl) is seeking for a motivated and talented individual for a position of a PhD student. The successful candidate will investigate molecular pathways that control systemic iron balance within the project entitled: “Deciphering ZIP14 regulatory network in hepatocytic cells”.

The aim of this project is to understand molecular processes that affect non-transferrin bound iron (NTBI) uptake in hepatocytes, the major cell type that accumulates this ‘free’ form iron in iron-overload diseases. Specifically, we want to identify the regulatory network that regulates hepatic expression levels of ZIP14, the key ion-transporter responsible for hepatic NTBI uptake. This question will be primarily addressed using CRISPR/Cas9-based loss-of-function genetic screens in hepatocytic cells, followed by functional characterization of the most interesting hits in cellular assays and mouse models. We are interested in candidates experienced in basic molecular biology and biochemical methods, cell culture work, flow cytometry, with an interest in bioinformatics (eg, R programming, gene network analysis) as well as fluent English.

We offer stimulating and enthusiastic work environment of our recently established lab, a part of excellent, open-minded and international research community of the IIMCB. The position is offered for approximately 4 years (with a probation period), with remuneration of at least 3000 PLN netto.
